At a Government meeting on July 8, the Government approved an order on the allocation of a resource under the program of socio-economic development of the regions.
According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, the decision of the Government provides for the disbursement of almost UAH 1.7 billion to satisfy real needs of the citizens.
"This is targeted assistance to the regions and ordinary citizens so that Ukrainians feel the changes in everyday life. As I was informed, the list of facilities subject to financing was being agreed transparently and with taking into account the urgent needs of the communities," said the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Denys Shmyhal reminded that in the process of adoption of amendments to the budget, the Government had preserved funding for this program: "We understand the importance of creating decent conditions for people in the regions. There are specific examples of where funds will be directed through local budgets: the installation of street lighting, measures to insulate schools for our children, the purchase of equipment for hospitals; those include the repair of outpatient clinics, schools, kindergartens and much more."
The need for such measures, according to the Head of Government, is due to the fact that rather often funding available in local budgets are insufficient. "The coronavirus-inflicted crisis has actually depleted local budgets, a lot of money has been spent on fighting the epidemic, so it is critical to support the regions with this subvention," summed up Denys Shmyhal.
