Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko held a meeting with Ambassador of Iceland Friðrik Jónsson
On July 24, 2025, Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko held a working meeting with Ambassador of Iceland to Ukraine Friðrik Jónsson.
Kateryna Levchenko thanked the Government of Iceland for its active support and accession to the Alliance for Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Recovery for Ukraine, an international platform that brings together governments, civil society, and international partners to ensure a fair, sustainable, and equitable recovery of the country after full-scale russian aggression.
Special gratitude was expressed for the inclusion of Ukraine in Iceland's Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace, and Security,” which is an important sign of solidarity and support for Ukrainian women — both during the war and in the subsequent peace and recovery processes.
During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of bilateral cooperation in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men, as well as Iceland's active participation in Ukraine's recovery processes.
In particular, the following issues were raised:
- holding a coordination meeting of Alliance members on gender-responsive and inclusive recovery, which Iceland joined during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome (URC2025);
- Iceland's participation and possible co-sponsorship of events during the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-70), particularly with regard to the implementation of Resolution 1325 and gender-sensitive recovery;
- Iceland's invitation to join the Global Alliance to Prevent Sexual Violence in Conflict, which Ukraine co-chairs in 2025;
- continued participation of Ukrainian students in gender equality training programs implemented with the support of the Government of Iceland.
The parties confirmed their readiness for further close cooperation to build a strong, inclusive, and democratic Ukraine.
