At a meeting on 24 May, the Government approved a resolution obliging regional power distribution companies to ensure an even and fair sequence of power outages for consumers. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"Critical infrastructure facilities, hospitals, military enterprises and enterprises performing mobilisation tasks will have priority power supply," the Prime Minister stressed.
In addition, the Government endorsed a draft law aimed to significantly improve the situation in the electricity market and resolve the issue of debts in the balancing market.
In particular, it envisages the creation of special accounts for a wide range of entities, which will ensure an acceptable level of payments. This will help reduce debts to Ukrenergo and enhance the resilience of the Ukrainian power system.
Denys Shmyhal emphasised that the Government was working on a daily basis to resolve the situation in the energy sector. In particular, there are three key tasks:
- decentralisation of the energy system and development of renewable energy;
- further integration with the EU and expanding opportunities for electricity imports;
- repair and reconstruction of what is critically important to restore.
