
Government introduces procedure for state registration of GMOs
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted the resolution “On Certain Issues of State Registration of Genetically Modified Organisms.” The document was prepared by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
The resolution aims to implement the provisions of the Law of Ukraine “On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control over the Placement of Genetically Modified Organisms and Products on the Market” and to align Ukrainian legislation with European Union standards.
“The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food continues its meticulous work on harmonising Ukrainian legislation with EU requirements. Our goal is European integration, and we are doing everything possible to achieve it. Ukraine must be part of the European family, and our agricultural production must develop in line with the world’s best standards. The requirements for GMO registration are extremely important,” said Vitalii Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.
The resolution establishes:
- The procedure for state registration (re-registration) of genetically modified organisms.
- The procedure for suspending the state registration of genetically modified organisms.
- The procedure for reviewing objections to applications for state registration of genetically modified organisms.
- The application form for state registration of genetically modified organisms.
- The statement form for state registration of genetically modified organisms.
- The requirements for applications for state registration of genetically modified organisms.
The implementation of the resolution will:
- Ensure the execution of the Law’s provisions.
- Introduce procedures for the state registration (re-registration) and suspension of genetically modified organisms.
- Harmonise Ukrainian legislation with EU legislation.
The resolution will take effect concurrently with the Law of Ukraine “On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control over the Placement of Genetically Modified Organisms and Products on the Market” on 16 September 2026.
