Government builds up comprehensive support system for veterans

The experience and skills of veterans are valuable human capital for the state.

The Government is developing a comprehensive support system for veterans in seeking employment, learning new professions, developing their own businesses, finding housing solutions, and integrating into communities. This was emphasized by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

“We are working to ensure that more veterans can find their place in civilian life, so that people who have given their time, energy, and health to defend the country have not only benefits but also a choice of career paths, both in the public and private sectors,” Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized.

According to her, more than 50% of veterans who have returned to work have been rehired in their previous jobs. About 12,000 are working as sole proprietors, and more than 30,000 have found new employment.

The Prime Minister voiced a number of comprehensive decisions adopted by the Government to support veterans:

1. The state program “Veteran.Work” for 2026-2027 has been approved. It covers professional adaptation, retraining, employment support, and career development opportunities after service.

We are developing the Veteran Career digital platform, with over 65,000 vacancies, more than 3,000 registered veterans, and nearly 1,000 employers. It helps combine military experience with civilian skills and find the best position for the veteran’s particular knowledge and skills.

2. We enlarge the housing rental compensation program for all veterans.

The following individuals are now eligible to receive funds to cover their housing rental costs:

- defenders who have lost their homes or had their hosing damaged in the temporarily occupied territories;

- war veterans from among internally displaced persons who do not have their own housing or lived in homes that were not their property;

- persons who were deprived of their personal freedom by the aggressor state in connection with the defense of Ukraine, who returned from captivity, and whose housing remained in the territory occupied by the russian federation.

Applications can be submitted through the structural units of veteran policy or the Centers for Administrative Services Provision located at the place of rented housing.

3. We are launching a state subsidy for communities to create veteran spaces. In 2026, 15 communities shall receive funding. These shall be barrier-free centers where veterans and their families can receive advice, services, and support in returning to active life in their communities.

4. We are introducing a special status for veteran entrepreneurs so that veterans have access to special financial support programs, grants, benefits, and other tools for developing their own businesses. The Ministry of Veterans Affairs will provide additional information on the algorithm for obtaining this status.

“All national and regional opportunities for veterans are collected on the Veteran.Pro platform. The state, together with the business community, continues to work systematically to ensure that veterans have real opportunities after their service, are aware of them, and can easily take advantage of those,” Yulia Svyrydenko summed up.
