The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted Resolution No. 1090 of 24 September 2024, which simplifies the procedure for granting and paying a one-time financial assistance in the event of death or disability of certain categories of persons in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On the Status of War Veterans, Guarantees of Their Social Protection".

Previously, decisions on granting one-off financial assistance (OFA) were made by an interdepartmental commission, and the funds were paid by social protection agencies.

From now on, the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs will make decisions on granting one-off financial assistance and pay it out by crediting funds to the recipient's bank account.

"Such changes are critical and necessary, they meet the requirements of today. The Ministry of Veterans' Affairs continues to work on eliminating bureaucratic procedures and modernising services for our veterans and their families," said Natalia Kalmykova, Minister of Veterans' Affairs of Ukraine.

In particular, the new procedure will speed up the timeframe for payments. To be appointed as a combatant with a disability as a result of war, as specified in paragraphs 11-16 of part two of Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine "On the Status of War Veterans, Guarantees of Their Social Protection", and family members of a deceased defender or defender of Ukraine, the relevant applications and documents may be submitted directly to the Ministry of Veterans, in particular by post, or through the Centres for the Administrative Services Provision regardless of the declared/registered place of residence.
