Government simplifies state support mechanism for water users’ organisations

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has removed excessive requirements for water users’ organisations as recipients of state support.

The changes abolish certain requirements related to determining the productivity levels of pumping stations transferred into the ownership of water users’ organisations. This will simplify the application process for state support and accelerate the implementation of irrigation infrastructure modernisation and reconstruction projects.

Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Iryna Ovcharenko stressed that the Government’s decision will strengthen the implementation of land reclamation reform and contribute to enhancing the country’s food security.

“We continue to create clear and transparent conditions for the operation of water users’ organisations. Simplifying the state support mechanism will enable farmers to implement irrigation infrastructure modernisation projects more quickly, attract investment, expand irrigation and introduce water-saving technologies. This is an important step towards improving the efficiency of water resource management, strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector and increasing crop yields,” said Iryna Ovcharenko.

The simplification of the state support mechanism for water users’ organisations is another step towards creating favourable conditions for their development. These organisations are becoming key partners of the state in modernising irrigation infrastructure and introducing modern approaches to water resource management.
