Preserving and increasing the number of aquatic bioresources, focusing on the European Green Deal and restarting the fishing industry, which will give a boost to its development are some of the main goals of the Strategy for the Development of the Fisheries Sector of Ukraine until 2030, which was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The Government also approved an operational action plan for its implementation in 2023-2025.

The strategy aims to create conditions for effective fisheries management. In particular, it will facilitate the restoration of destroyed property and infrastructure of the industry's entities damaged as a result of hostilities, terrorist acts, and sabotage caused by the military aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine.

The strategic goals of the document include the development of fisheries, aquaculture, recreational fishing, science and education in this area. It also provides for addressing the imperfections in the procedure for obtaining permits, the lack of a traceability system, etc.

In addition, the Strategy takes into account European integration processes. It is about expanding regional cooperation within the framework of the Joint Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea, developing cooperation with other international regional fisheries management organisations.

It is also planned to implement EU acts to harmonise legislation with the goal of Ukraine's eventual accession to the European Union.

Overall, the goal of this Strategy is to ensure the sustainable development of Ukraine's fisheries sector in the context of climate change, preserve natural reserves of aquatic bioresources, reduce the industry's import dependence, deregulate business activities and digitalise them, as well as create conditions for investment development, etc.
