Government supports initiative by Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity to simplify access to sports prostheses for veterans

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved an initiative from the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity to streamline the process of obtaining sports prostheses for service members and veterans.

Previously, combat veterans had to prove their participation in competitions listed in state or regional calendar plans to receive a sports prosthesis. This required numerous certificates and approvals from ministries, sports federations, or local authorities. The new resolution eliminates these bureaucratic hurdles.

From now on, veterans can obtain sports prostheses without additional documentation, whether for competitions, training, or personal rehabilitation. This decision has several key implications:

• Reduction of bureaucratic barriers;
• Equal access to sports prosthetics for all veterans;
• Enhanced rehabilitative and social impact;
• Minimised corruption risks.

Denys Uliutin, Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity, emphasised: “It’s vital for us that sport and physical activity become accessible to every veteran. This isn’t a privilege for the few, but a part of a rehabilitation system that helps restore not just physical fitness, but inner strength too. We want every fighter who has lost a limb to have a real chance to return to an active life – without unnecessary barriers or lengthy bureaucratic processes.”

This decision marks a significant step in supporting veterans and service members who have sustained injuries on their journey to physical and psychological rehabilitation.
