  • Ukraine and Israel will cooperate in the sphere of industrial property

    On August 2019, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Oleksii Perevezentsev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Ukraine Joel Lyon signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine and the Israeli Patent Office of the Ministry of Justice of the State of Israel on cooperation in the sphere of industrial property.

    The document will extend bilateral cooperation by establishing direct cooperation between the relevant authorities of Ukraine and Israel, facilitate the development and strengthen national industrial property systems and create instruments for cooperation.

    The Memorandum encapsulates cooperation in the  areas such as exchange of information on patents, industrial designs, trademarks, designations of origin and geographical indications, approval of the procedure for granting legal protection to industrial property objects, in particular in the field of patent search and practice of examination, activities in the field of information services, exchange of experience and knowledge on managing the process of examination and organization of automatic search,  assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of industrial property protection and other areas.

    Apart from that, it is planned to hold joint conferences, seminars and forums  to raise stakeholder’s awareness, staff training and professional development through internships and practical training.

    Background

    The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine and the Israeli Patent Office of the Ministry of Justice of the State of Israel on cooperation in the sphere of industrial property was signed in the presence of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.
