  • Ukraine to become affiliate member of CEN-CENELEC in 2023
    Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, posted 02 December 2022 14:44

    Ukraine is accelerating implementation of the Agreement on Access of Ukrainian Goods to the EU Market (ACAA). By the end of 2022, Ukraine can adopt about 26 thousand European standards. This was agreed by experts of the State Enterprise UkrNDNC (Ukrainian Scientific Research and Training Center for Standardization, Certification and Quality), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC).

    At a closed Assembly, which took place at the end of November 2022, European colleagues discussed and supported two important decisions regarding Ukraine:

    • to exempt Ukraine from paying membership fees until the end of 2022 and in 2023 (EUR 27,950 for CEN and EUR 27,950 for CENELEC per year);
    • change the status of Ukraine in CEN-CENELEC from a partner organization to an affiliate member from January 1, 2023.

    Since the beginning of the year, UkrNDNC, with the support of the Department of Technical Regulation of the Ministry of Economy, has started negotiations and active work with European colleagues.

    A working group was established to ensure effective, efficient and uninterrupted communication between UkrNDNC and CEN-CENELEC specialists on the adoption of a full package of European standards (about 26 thousand) by the end of 2022. Technically, all safety prerequisites have been met and a complete database of European standards has been received from the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization to ensure their adoption by the end of 2022.

    Adoption and integration of European standards into the Ukrainian economy will allow for faster ratification of the ACAA Agreement. In 2023, Ukraine plans to prepare all the necessary documents and submit an application to become a full member of CEN-CENELEC.

    For reference

    The State Enterprise “Ukrainian Scientific Research and Training Center for Standardization, Certification and Quality” (SE UkrNDNC) is the leading organization in Ukraine in the field of standardization, which performs the functions of the national standardization body and represents the interests of Ukraine in international and regional standardization organizations.

    The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) together form the European system of technical standardization. Standards agreed by these agencies are regularly adopted in many countries outside Europe that follow European technical standards.
