Ukraine and UAE to develop structured humanitarian assistance mechanisms

Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to strengthen cooperation on humanitarian assistance and food security. Priorities include establishing permanent mechanisms for responding to humanitarian crises and further developing Food from Ukraine as a platform for food assistance, the transfer of agricultural technology and long-term partnerships.

The agreement was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Economy and Environment of Ukraine Denys Bashlyk and UAE Minister of State Dr Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, held in Dubai as part of DIHAD.

The parties discussed ways to coordinate humanitarian assistance and resources from international partners more quickly, while combining immediate support with measures designed to make countries more resilient to future crises.

“Today, it is important not only to respond to humanitarian crises but also to develop solutions that reduce countries’ vulnerability in the future. Ukraine is ready to share its experience, agricultural technologies and expertise. Together with the UAE, we can combine humanitarian assistance with the development of local production and more resilient food systems,” Denys Bashlyk said.

Further development of Food from Ukraine could become one of the partnership’s practical areas of cooperation. The initiative combines humanitarian food assistance for countries in need with the transfer of Ukrainian agricultural expertise and technologies and the development of long-term international partnerships to strengthen food security.
