Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Hrynchuk met with a delegation of the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) headed by Director General Per Strand.

The parties discussed deepening cooperation in the context of continued russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Svitlana Hrynchuk informed the Norwegian side of the difficult situation in Ukraine’s energy system. She highlighted the threats to nuclear and radiation safety posed by russian attacks on substations and transmission system facilities that deliver electricity, including to nuclear power plants.

The Deputy Minister also underlined the threats of a nuclear incident in connection with the occupation of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Areas of international cooperation to ensure nuclear and radiation safety at the facility were also discussed.

The parties agreed to deepen cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway on the establishment of a bilateral working group on nuclear security, nuclear safety and emergency preparedness.
