Ukraine and Italy are to ink a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation of Emergency Services. This was stated by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov during a meeting with the deputy chief of the Civil Protection Department of Italy Maria Cinclari.
The parties discussed the actions of the Italian coordination headquarters to localize and eliminate the spread of COVID-19 and further steps to respond to the coronavirus treats.
"For the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the experience of Italian colleagues regarding measures aimed at counteracting the spread of COVID-19 is extremely important. After all, Italy has managed to overcome the COVID-19 peak incidence, despite the large number of infected - more than 240,000 patients and 300,000 deaths - in particular, by forces of law enforcement officers and volunteers," said Arsen Avakov.
It is an interesting practice for Ukraine to involve volunteers in the elimination of emergencies, in this case the fight against the infection. According to Italian colleagues, more than 1 million people were involved in the elimination of the effects of COVID-19 and the introduction of quarantine restrictions.
"To date, 35,000 carabinieri have been involved in eliminating the spread of COVID-19. Due to this fact, we managed to reduce the number of patients to 100-300 people per day. The Italian government has extended the restrictive measures until October," said Maria Cinclari.
Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that 14,000 law enforcement officers - police, guards officers and rescuers - go out to fight COVID-19 in Ukraine every day.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further steps of the Italian government to resume schooling and mass events.
It is expected that all Italian educational institutions will start working in September. The main thing is social distancing, availability of disinfectants and means of protection.
Separately, the Ukrainian delegation got acquainted with the situational centers for air traffic management, air forces and means for firefighting, search and rescue, water surface situation control, management of ships of emergency services and liquidation of emergencies on the water.
