Ukraine and the Czech Republic sign a series of documents following joint government consultations
Ukraine and the Czech Republic are building a powerful strategic alliance. Our cooperation will make Europe safer and bring benefits to both countries. This was emphasised by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a press conference following the joint consultations between the governments of Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
“Today, at the joint meeting, we focused on such key aspects as defence support and military-technical cooperation, interaction between the governments on Ukraine’s recovery projects, foreign policy and economic cooperation, cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, medicine, etc.,” said Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, the results of today’s agreements are reflected in the Joint Statement of the Governments of Ukraine and the Czech Republic signed by the Prime Ministers.
“This document is a political declaration of our intentions to strengthen bilateral cooperation based on the common interests of the two peoples,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine said.
Following the consultations, two important agreements in the defence industry were signed. In particular, a new cartridge factory will be built in Ukraine. The second agreement is on the production of assault rifles by Colt CZ Group in Ukraine. This is an agreement between Česká zbrojovka and a relevant Ukrainian enterprise.
“Ukraine has the intention and potential to become an arsenal of the free world. And we are grateful to the Czech Republic for its support of our aspirations,” said Denys Shmyhal.
Another point of dialogue between the governments is the implementation of the Czech initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine.
“This initiative is already underway! The first 50,000 shells have been delivered to Ukraine, and some of this ammunition is now destroying russian occupiers on the frontline. We have good prospects and look forward to joint projects in the production of ammunition in the Czech Republic or in safe places in Ukraine, as well as joint repair of Mi-type helicopters in the Czech Republic,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine said.
As a result of today’s talks, Ukraine and the Czech Republic also signed five more agreements and memoranda.
- Agreement between Ukraine and the Czech Republic on cooperation in the fight against crime and ensuring public order and security.
- Memorandum of Intent on cooperation in the energy sector. In particular, it concerns the implementation of a project to transport various types of oil through the South Druzhba pipeline. Ukraine also encourages Czech companies to store gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities and invest in gas production in Ukraine, and invites Czech companies to join projects to build new highly manoeuvrable gas generation, biofuel plants and battery storage systems. The Czech Republic will promote the development of decentralised energy in Ukraine.
- A memorandum between the State Space Agency of Ukraine and the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, which provides for a new level of cooperation in the development of the space industry.
- Memorandum of Partnership and Cooperation between the State Property Fund of Ukraine and the Office for Government Representation in Property Affairs of the Czech Republic.
- Memorandum between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. The priority areas of cooperation include the implementation of projects for the construction of rehabilitation centres and the provision of new modern equipment to Ukrainian hospitals.
