Ukraine and Germany will continue cooperation to restore and develop Ukraine’s energy sector

Yaroslav Demchenkov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, met in Berlin with Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Germany’s representative on the G7+ donor platform for Ukraine’s reconstruction.

The parties discussed areas of cooperation in support of Ukraine’s energy sector. In particular, the Deputy Minister briefed the German side on the needs of Ukrainian energy companies, with a particular focus on high-voltage equipment and gas turbines.

The possibility of supplying such equipment manufactured by leading German energy companies was discussed.

Yaroslav Demchenkov thanked Germany for its largest contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which was established at the Energy Community Secretariat on the initiative of Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson. The Deputy Minister also briefed the State Secretary on the specifics of the procurement procedures for energy equipment financed by the Fund, as well as proposals for their improvement.

The parties also discussed ways to deepen public-private partnerships in order to attract a wider range of German companies to projects aimed at restoring and developing the Ukrainian energy sector. Yaroslav Demchenkov highlighted the prospects for deepening cooperation in the hydrogen industry, renewable energy, the development of smart grids, increasing the capacity of energy storage systems and other areas.
