Belarus is a key trading partner of Ukraine taking into account the development of export and import potential, cooperation, transport flows, international crossing points, cooperation in the energy, cultural and humanitarian spheres. However, these days we have to outline the strategic trends of further collaboration not only between the countries but also among our regions, which will allow us to enter new European markets. This was announced in his opening statement for the participants of the First Forum of Regions of Ukraine and Belarus by Vice Prime Minister/ Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko.
"The First Forum of the Regions of Ukraine and Belarus should demonstrate that not only our countries are investment hubs, but each particular region having the potential of leveraging investments and providing joint profits for the two States. Todays Forum brought together representatives of businesses from 17 regions of Ukraine and about 100 Ukrainian companies, who have already signed memoranda on interregional cooperation worth hundreds of millions. It is rather important for us to show Ukraine not only from the point of view of our economy, but also to show off the potential of tourism, culture and all that is common to our peoples and promoting our cooperation with Belarus", said Hennadii Zubko.
The Vice Prime Minister noted that in 2018 Ukraine plans to reach 5.2% in the commodity turnover with Belarus. "In comparison with 4.6% in 2017, these are rather ambitious plans. But the potential is much bigger - USD 8 billion, we are planning to achieve not only due to exports and imports, but primarily due to the development of joint production, which will allow the creation of new joint products with Belarus and promoting them to European markets. And this are completely different profits, volumes of export and level of cooperation", highlighted Hennadii Zubko.
