On September 12-13, the first round of Ukraine-EU-Russia  trilateral technical consultations on transportation of Russian gas  through Ukraine took place in Brussels.

The meeting was held as a result of the arrangements reached during  the trilateral Ukraine-EU-Russia consultations that took place on July  17 this year in Berlin.

During the technical consultations, experts from Ukraine, EC and  Russian Federation discussed the key elements of gas transportation  contracts which exist in the EU Member States, main approaches to the  formation of tariffs, as well as the reform of the Ukrainian GTS  managing in accordance with the legislation and Ukraine’s obligations  under the Association Agreement.

The Ukrainian side confirmed the interest in having the EU internal  market treatment extended to Ukraine and informed on the current work  with a view to full implementation of the gas market norms and rules of  the European Union. In this regard, the participants of the  consultations confirmed that the contractual relations between the  operators on the Ukrainian energy market will be governed by Ukrainian  legislation fully compliant with that of the EU.
