According to the results of last year, port operators in the seaports of Ukraine handled 158.86 million tons of cargo. This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Kryklii.
"Despite the pandemic and the crisis in 2020, Ukraine's seaports continued to operate and made great efforts to maintain a sufficient level of transshipment. The result of this work is almost 160 million tons of processed cargo per year, which practically reaches last year's pre-crisis level. 2020 was the year of concluding the first concession agreements in the maritime sector in the ports of Olvia and Kherson with an investment of UAH 3.7 billion for their further modernization and development. And we continue to work on new concessions in the industry in 2021," said the Minister.
On the outcomes of the year, the transshipment of export cargo increased to 122.84 million tons (+ 1.5%), cabotage - to 2.37 million tons (+ 10.7%). Negative dynamics of import and transit cargo was recorded. Most ports handled grain cargo and ore - 48 million tons and 44.22 million tons, respectively. At the same time, the transshipment of ore in 2020 increased by 18.5%, ferrous metals - by 8.6%, oil - by 6.7%, petroleum - by 2.2 times. Container transshipment reached 1.05 million TEU and exceeded last year's figure by 4.1%.
