The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced an additional USD 17 million to finance the restoration of the public health system in Ukraine. This was stated during a working meeting of Minister of Health Viktor Liashko and Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin with representatives of the CDC in Washington.
“Of these USD 17 million, 5.3 million will be allocated to prevent, detect and respond to contain antimicrobial resistance, 7.7 million – to strengthen surveillance systems and laboratory capabilities, 2.6 million – to strengthen public health emergency management, and 1.2 million – to improve data modernization systems. Part of the funds will be used to further support and develop a training course in field epidemiology for Ukrainian specialists, which will have a positive impact on public health security in Ukraine. We are grateful to our partners for standing side by side and supporting the medical system and public health system in Ukraine in this difficult time for the Ukrainian people,” the Minister said.
During the meeting, the parties discussed confronting the challenges that have arisen as a result of the full-scale russia’s invasion of Ukraine, in particular, key areas of support to the health care system using CDC resources.
The meeting was held in the framework of a working visit of Minister of Health Viktor Liashko and Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin to the United States to deepen and promote cooperation with American partners.
