Tariffs for gas and heat will remain in place - the state supports Ukrainians during the war
On May 10, 2022, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the draft Law of Ukraine "On the peculiarities of regulating relations in the natural gas market and in the field of heat supply during martial law and further recovery" was approved.
The bill, among other things, provides for a moratorium on rising natural gas prices and tariffs for heat and related services.
The information that was spread in a number of mass media that "in Ukraine, the price of heating services will be tripled" is manipulative.
Naftogaz Trading Gas Supply Company LLC has indeed set new natural gas prices in compliance with the terms of three-year contracts with district heating providers (TKE). The price revision planned for June 1, 2022, was one of the conditions of the agreement that TKE voluntarily signed last year with the Naftogaz. While the terms of the three-year contracts were agreed by the Government.
This will not affect the sums in utility bills of Ukrainians.
The draft law, approved by the Government, stipulates that part of the international financial assistance to Ukraine will be used to curb tariffs. The mentioned funds will compensate for the difference between economically justified and current tariffs, in particular for TKE. This mechanism will also allow TKE to pay off for new gas prices with Naftogaz and repay overdue debts.
The National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine, together with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada, is working on solutions that will allow the country to provide support and assistance to Ukrainians during the war.
