Taras Vysotskyi: Ukraine and Morocco increase economic partnership—trade volume reaches USD 250 million

Morocco is Ukraine’s fifth-largest trading partner among African countries. In 2021, bilateral trade reached USD 630 million. Due to russia’s full-scale aggression, trade volumes declined, but by 2025 they had recovered to approximately USD 250 million.

This was stated by Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, during the Ukrainian-Moroccan Business Forum in Rabat, which had brought together representatives of the governments and business communities of both countries.

“Morocco is an important trading partner for Ukraine in North Africa. Today, we export grain crops, sunflower oil, oilseed meal, metal products, and other goods to Morocco, while importing fertilizers, vegetables, seafood, automobiles, and clothing. We are interested not only in restoring pre-war trade volumes but also in expanding our economic partnership, developing joint projects and industrial cooperation, and strengthening economic ties between our countries,” emphasized Taras Vysotskyi.

The Deputy Minister paid special attention to Ukraine’s role in ensuring global food security. Despite constant russian attacks on port infrastructure, grain silos, and civilian vessels, Ukraine continues to be one of the world’s key food suppliers.

“Since the start of the full-scale invasion, russia has either damaged or destroyed 726 port infrastructure facilities and at least 156 civilian vessels. At the same time, logistics have continued uninterrupted: products are being shipped to 55 countries around the world via the Ukrainian maritime corridor, and since its launch, nearly 190 million tonnes of cargo have been transported, of which 110 million tonnes is grain. “This helps maintain stability in global food markets,” noted Taras Vysotskyi.

He specifically highlighted the Ukrainian President’s humanitarian initiative, “Food from Ukraine,” under which Ukrainian food is supplied to countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, as well as to the people of Syria.

At the same time, Ukraine can become a reliable partner for Moroccan businesses on their path to the European market and in strengthening food security in Africa.

Also, as part of the business forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Moroccan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which provides for the creation of a Ukrainian-Moroccan Business Council, as well as a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and the National Port Authority of Morocco.

It should be noted that the Ukrainian delegation, led by Taras Vysotskyi, included representatives of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, relevant industry associations, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, as well as leading Ukrainian companies operating in the agro-industrial complex, food industry, logistics, transportation, equipment manufacturing, seed production, fertilizers, and innovative technologies.
