Situation in the power system as of 22 March: the enemy inflicted a massive attack on the power sector - electricity generation, transmission and distribution facilities were damaged; emergency shutdowns are used to stabilise the system; imported electricity is being used to cover consumer needs

CONSEQUENCES OF THE SHELLING 

“The enemy has launched the most extensive attack on the Ukrainian energy sector in recent times. The goal is not just to damage, but to try again, just like last year, to cause a large-scale failure in the country's power system. Unfortunately, there have been damages to power generation facilities, transmission and distribution systems in various regions,” commented German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine.

In particular, facilities in Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Khmelnytsky, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Dnipro and Kharkiv regions were affected.

The attack resulted in emergency power cuts in these regions.

An employee of a power facility, a shift supervisor, was injured during the attack on one of the facilities in Kharkiv.

The situation at DniproHES (Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Station) is under control. There is no threat of a dam breach. However, the facility suffered damage.

A number of mines in Donetsk and Dnipro regions are without electricity. More than 1,000 people are underground. There is no threat to their lives.

GENERATION 

Due to the emergency shutdown of several TPP and HPP units, there is a certain decline in electricity generation. To meet the needs of consumers, electricity is being imported from neighbouring countries such as Romania, Slovakia and Poland. Commercial electricity imports are also planned.

Emergency power outages were also introduced in a number of regions (Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Kirovohrad regions) to stabilise the system. These are temporary measures to assess the consequences of the attacks and to restore the system. In the most affected regions, efforts are made to supply power to critical infrastructure facilities using temporary schemes and backup power supply.

SITUATION IN ZNPP 

Due to the main line outage, Zaporizhzhia NPP is powered by a single 330 kV line. ZNPP is again one step away from blackout.

The water level in the cooling pond is 15.52 metres. This is enough to meet the needs of the plant.

IMPORT/EXPORT

For the current day, electricity imports are forecast at 2,757 MWh.
