Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources: Drafting a joint action plan to implement the Environmental Compact for Ukraine
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets chaired the inaugural meeting of the Interagency Working Group on the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Environmental Compact for Ukraine.
The event gathered representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and other agencies.
"The Environmental Compact is a component of the umbrella of Paragraph 8 of the Peace Formula. The document was prepared by the International Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of War, co-headed by Margot Wallström and Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. It contains 50 recommendations for the post-war green recovery of Ukraine. 30 of those recommendations are within the direct responsibility of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine," said Ruslan Strilets.
What are these recommendations based on?
- a unified approach to assessing the impact of armed aggression on the environment. In particular, the impact of the russian ecocide.
- clear approaches to compensation for the damage caused.
- proposals for " green" recovery. After all, post-war reconstruction should be based on the best technologies and the principles of "build back better" and "build back greener".
According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ukraine is at the epicentre of global processes. We are the first in the world to create an international platform for bringing terrorists to justice for environmental crimes. We have many allies in the international arena. But they will not do our job for us. Our further steps under the Environmental Compact determine the future of Ukraine and should become a good example for the whole world.
The participants agreed to develop specific proposals for a joint action plan for the implementation of the Environmental Compact for Ukraine and to approve them at the next meeting of the working group.
