The establishment of the Ministry for Veterans’ Affairs will significantly accelerate the social adaptation of the military and will become a powerful tool in the matter of prolonging the effective work of the NATO Trust Fund aimed to provide assistance in switching from the military career track to the professional civilian in 2019 in Ukraine.
Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze announced at a meeting with the head of the assessment group of the ISSAT (International Security Sector Advisory Team, Switzerland) Oleksandr Burjian and representatives of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Ukraine.
The parties discussed the results of the Ukraine-Norway project "Retraining and social adaptation of servicemen and their family members in Ukraine", as well as the setting up of the Ministry for Veterans’ Affairs and its priorities in work.
"The Government, at its session on Wednesday, decided to establish a Ministry for Veterans’ Affairs, determined the main directions of its activity. The newly created authority will fully assume responsibility for the social adaptation of servicemen, their medical and psychological rehabilitation. I hope that this fact will be a powerful tool for continuing the work of the NATO Trust Fund in the matters of military career transition to the professional civilian the next year in Ukraine", said the Vice Prime Minister.
She added that Ukraine should support the social adaptation of servicemen at the national level, hence the Cabinet of Ministers is constantly working on developing a concept and a state program of social adaptation of the military and their families.
Moreover, the Vice Prime Minister thanked Norway for many years of support in the field of retraining and adaptation of Ukrainian servicemen to a peaceful life and assured that the implementation of the Ukraine-Norway project in practice had for many years been a great model for increasing the social security of the military in their peaceful life.
Project «Ukraine – Norway» «Retraining and Social Adaptation of Military Officers and Their Family Members in Ukraine» has been implemented in Ukraine for 15 years. The goal of the project is to reduce the impact of the negative social effects of economic reforms and the reforms of the defense sector of Ukraine on the retired military officers and their family members and to promote cooperation between the two countries. The project is funded 100% by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway. The organizer of the project in Ukraine is the International Fund for Social Adaptation.
