On September 26, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine endorsed an ordinance "Approval of the Action Plan for the implementation of the State Policy Strategy for Healthy and Active Longevity of the Population till 2022".
The ordinance seeks to implement the state policy strategy for healthy and active longevity of the population for the period up to 2022, the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, as well as to ensure the creation of favorable conditions for healthy ageing and active longevity, the adaptation of public institutions to further demographic ageing and building a society of equal opportunities for people of all ages.
The main challenges associated with ageing in our country are public finances, functioning of the labor market, health care systems, and development of social and educational services.
With a view of these challenges, Ukraine has undertaken international commitments, in particular, on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals for the period up to 2030 and the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, on the one hand and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, on the other hand.
Implementation of the Action Plan will contribute to solving problems pertaining to the ageing of the population.
The said Plan stipulates for comprehensive measures to protect the rights of senior citizens with a focus on efforts, in particular: improvement of conditions for self-realization and participation of the older persons in the processes of development of society; promoting their health and well-being and creating a favorable environment for active life.
