Inevitable and lasting exclusion of russia from the list of major exporters in the world energy market – such a priority of international cooperation was outlined by Minister of Energy German Galushchenko during a meeting with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans.
“It is extremely important that exclusion of russia from the list of key exporters of energy resources to European countries does not become a temporary phenomenon for the duration of the war. russia should disappear forever from the map of major exporters in the world energy market,” emphasized German Galushchenko.
The parties also discussed the development of Ukraine’s energy system after the victory in the war.
Frans Timmermans emphasized that now it is about the future of Ukraine, which should be independent from russian hydrocarbons. This is possible through the use of its huge potential in the field of renewable energy, solar and wind energy, as well as hydrogen.
In turn, the Minister stressed that sustainability of the energy system is an important aspect of the post-war agenda. Ukraine plans to implement the best international practices of energy infrastructure protection.
“Our vision is a sustainable, decentralized and climate-neutral energy system of Ukraine. The priority is to increase renewable and nuclear generation,” said German Galushchenko.
According to the Minister, by 2030, Ukraine is expected to increase nuclear generation by 2 GW. Renewable sources will account for about 30% of country’s energy balance. By 2050, more than 90% of electricity will be produced from carbon-free sources.
