  • Framework climate bill recommended for consideration in the first reading

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management has recommended the Parliament to adopt the climate framework draft law developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources as a basis in the first reading.

"Bill No. 11310 is the foundation for the development of Ukraine's climate architecture. It gives a start to the following draft laws aimed at fully implementing strategic goals, becoming closer to climate neutrality and bringing our legislation closer to the European acquis. In addition, this is an important step towards Ukraine receiving funding under the Ukraine Facility," said Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

According to him, climate policy is a marker of a country's civilisation. European countries have many years of experience in implementing it. Ukraine is still at the beginning of this critical path.

"I am grateful to Oleh Bondarenko, Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management, and the members of the Committee for supporting this crucial decision," the Minister said.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management also approved and recommended adopting as a basis and as a whole the draft law on ratification of the Amendments to the Aarhus Convention on Genetically Modified Organisms submitted by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The ratification of these Amendments is envisaged by Ukraine's European integration commitments and is an important decision for public participation in environmental decision-making on genetically modified organisms.
