Security, energy, education, healthcare and demining issues in Kherson region addressed at a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister

On the outcomes of the Government team's working visit to Kherson region, a Government meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

A number of issues affecting the region as well as the progress of implementation of the Cabinet of Ministers' orders as reported by the Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration were discussed. The meeting participants focused on key areas, including security.

"It is crucial to protect the population from constant drone attacks. I have tasked the Ministry of Defense and the RMA to ensure coordination with the military and promptly redistribute EW assets to the frontline regions," said Denys Shmyhal emphasizing the importance of securing evacuation routes.

He also said that the issues of critical infrastructure and energy remain a priority. The Head of Government underlined that the Government was stepping up the supply of the necessary equipment to ensure a stable energy supply. Relevant tasks have been set to the relevant ministries.

The Prime Minister noted that 11 underground medical facilities are being built in the region, including a regional children's hospital and a city clinical hospital.

"The Ministry of Health is negotiating with donors to purchase equipment, including computed tomography scanners. These issues are under the control of the Ministry," emphasized Denys Shmyhal.

The meeting also dealt with the educational process and children's safety. In particular, according to Denys Shmyhal, the construction of the first underground schools is underway in the region - at least one per community, which should be operational by September 1. In addition, some school buses have already been purchased, and the rest are planned to purchase in the near future. The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Finance to ensure that the transportation needs of hromadas are met.

The Head of Government also said that demining is being systematically carried out. 68% of the de-occupied territories have already been cleared of explosive ordnance, despite forecasts that it could take up to 15 years. Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the Government would continue to increase demining capacities and funding.

The participants of the Government meeting also paid attention to the restoration of infrastructure.

"Large-scale reconstruction is underway in Posad-Pokrovske. More than UAH 2.2 billion has been allocated for the pilot project. Those responsible are tasked with continuing the activities and it is important not to slow down," said Denys Shmyhal. He said that in 2025 the Government would allocate almost UAH 6.3 billion for all projects to restore the Kherson region.

The topic of land reclamation and the agricultural sector was also relevant, especially the issue of irrigation, which arose after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. The Head of Government instructed the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food to develop a compensation mechanism for farmers who restore reclamation systems independently, following the example of compensation for mine clearance. The Government is also considering expanding the grant program and budgetary support for for gardening.

“We will continue to help communities and provide people with decent living conditions,” said Denys Shmyhal.
