On Tuesday, November 10, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal took part in a meeting chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy dedicated to the activities of Energoatom NNEGC in the autumn-winter period. The meeting also gathered together acting Minister of Energy Olha Buslavets, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Andrii Herus, acting President of NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin.
During the meeting, acting President of Energoatom NNEGC Petro Kotin presented a report on the financial health of the state enterprise.
Denys Shmyhal informed the President of Ukraine that this issue had been discussed the previous day with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture and the head of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission Valery Tarasiuk.
"The autumn-winter heating season has begun, so it is of paramount importance to ensure that consumers' electricity needs are fully met. This applies to both the population and businesses. Atomic generation is one of the key components in implementing of this task," said the Prime Minister.
The Head of Government stressed the importance of NNEGC Energoatom's work to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and the development of nuclear generation in Ukraine. The Prime Minister said that following the meeting with the participation of government officials, a number of instructions had been issued to resolve the problematic issues of the work of Energoatom.
In particular, Ukrenergo together with Energoatom must develop an action plan to repay the debt to the nuclear generation sector, which was formed after the introduction of a new model of the wholesale electricity market in Ukraine.
In addition, Energoatom, together with the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada, must work out ways to repay the debt incurred to this state-owned enterprise by July 1, 2019.
