The Government is committed to providing necessary assistance to the residents of the Ichnia district of Chernihiv region, who are in danger due to the blasts at the arms depots of military unit A-1479. This was claimed by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman.

The emergency situation occurred in the early hours of October 9, and already in the morning the Head of Government flew to the region and he personally checked the situation.

"There are nearly 18 thousand people who live in settlements located nearby the accident. But at present there is no information about a significant destruction. There are no grounds to spread panic. If something is destroyed- we will restore everything. We will bring this issue under our control. The overriding priority is people’s lives", Volodymyr Groysman said.

He emphasized that 18 reception centers for evacuated people have been deployed. About 12,000 people have already been evacuated and he commended the actions of local authorities which provided accommodation, food and medicines. Everything is organized according to the blueprint approved for cases of similar situations.

According to him, the swift actions of all services became possible due to the training  organized in November of last year. "We will monitor the fire suppression, the pyrotechnicians are ready, the operational headquarters is working. Everyone knows what to do. People will be able to return home when we are sure that there are no threats. The main issue is safety. All activities are carried out in full coordination", the Prime Minister underscored.
