Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal discussed with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Lithuania Gintautas Paluckas the prospects for further cooperation between the two countries. One of the key outcomes of the conversation was an agreement to hold joint intergovernmental consultations in Kyiv by the end of this year.

The Head of Ukrainian Government congratulated Gintautas Paluckas on his appointment and the formation of the new Lithuanian government. Denys Shmyhal underlined the strategic nature of the partnership between the two countries, as well as Lithuania’s special role as one of Ukraine’s largest international supporters.

“Lithuania is one of the biggest supporters and advocates of our country in the international arena. We appreciate the decision of our Lithuanian friends to allocate 0.25% of GDP annually to the security and defence needs of our country,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.

Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion, Lithuania has provided Ukraine with more than EUR 1.5 billion in assistance, which is equivalent to 2% of the country’s GDP. The parties reaffirmed their intention to continue implementing joint projects in key sectors and to support Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and NATO, which are important points of the new Lithuanian government’s programme.
