Commemorative events were held in Kyiv on Holodomor Remembrance Day with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. The events also brought together First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, government officials and the military.

A prayer for the victims of the Holodomor was held in the Assumption Cathedral of the Holy Dormition, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, followed by a ceremony of laying a composition with grain to the sculpture ‘Bitter Memory of Childhood’ at the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide.

"Today, Ukraine honours the memory of the Holodomor victims - millions of innocents whose lives had been cut short by the genocide organised by the Soviet authorities. This tragedy is a terrible testament to the cruelty of totalitarian regimes. However, we will survive, we will become stronger and we will make the aggressor accountable for all its crimes. To prevent such tragedies from happening again in the future," said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
