Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko discussed nuclear and radiation safety in Ukraine in the context of russian military aggression with the Permanent Representative of India to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Shambhu S. Kumaran.

The meeting took place in Vienna, where the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency is meeting.

German Galushchenko particularly highlighted the threats to nuclear and radiation safety posed by russian attacks on substations, which are critical for the operation of Ukrainian NPPs, as attacks on substations have the same impact as an emergency shutdown of a nuclear power plant.

The parties discussed the need to ensure the safety and security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, as well as to take all measures to avoid a potential nuclear incident.

The representative of India assured that his country shares concerns about the existing threats and supports the IAEA missions in Ukraine aimed at monitoring the situation with nuclear and radiation safety.
