During a working trip of the Ukrainian delegation to New York, the US, on September 20, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska had a meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked António Guterres for his consistent support and emphasized the need to use the capabilities of the UN system organizations in Ukraine more widely for humanitarian response in the territories liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the occupation of the russian federation.
"To date, more than 300 settlements with a population of 150,000 people have been deoccupied in the Kharkiv region. The assistance of the UN in these territories is extremely necessary. It is urgent to provide the affected population with financial, psychological, social, and medical assistance, assistance in the restoration and repair of civil infrastructure, as well as humanitarian demining," said Denys Shmyhal.
The parties also discussed the continuation and expansion of the "grain initiative" through the Black Sea ports in order to maintain food security in the world.
In addition, the Prime Minister of Ukraine emphasized the need to engage the capabilities of the UN for the demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, in particular, the organization of a corresponding monitoring mission.
First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, for her part, emphasized that the voice of the UN is heard in all countries, even in the aggressor country. Therefore, Ukraine hopes that the UN will use it to protect Ukrainian children.
"Your decision to include the situation in Ukraine in this year's Report on Children and Armed Conflicts was fundamentally important to us, as it will ensure proper monitoring by the UN system of crimes against children committed daily by the russian occupiers in Ukraine," said Olena Zelenska.
