Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and Deputy Minister of Energy Yaroslav Demchenkov met with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Energy Resources at the U.S. Department of State Harry Kamian.

The topic of the meeting was technical assistance, support for the implementation of reforms and transformation of the energy sector provided by the United States to Ukraine.

"Now it is crucial for us to help the energy sector prepare for the heating season and get through the winter, which can be no less difficult. Another priority is equipment that will help restore the infrastructure damaged and flooded as a result of the blowing up by russia of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam. We need to build up equipment reserves and ensure energy stability through sufficient generating and balancing capacities and grids in the affected areas," said German Galushchenko.

The participants of the meeting also discussed cooperation in assessing the losses caused by the Kakhovka HPP disaster and creating the necessary equipment reserves to overcome its consequences.

Harry Kamian highlighted the importance of reforms in Ukraine and supported the recent decisions of the Government, which, in particular, will speed up the repair activities. The Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary stressed the need to strengthen reforms, emphasising that there was both political will and public support for them. In particular, the parties discussed the management system in the energy sector, stimulating the development of alternative energy sources and the integration of Ukraine's energy markets into the EU.

The Ukrainian side also informed Harry Kamian of the need for support in humanitarian demining of the territory of Ukraine, including energy facilities and adjacent land, to ensure access for repair teams and restoration of energy facilities ahead of the heating season. Harry Kamian assured that the United States would be one of the main partners in demining Ukraine and proposed institutional solutions that are already being worked out by the Ministry of Energy and the U.S. side.

The parties also addressed ways to ensure nuclear and radiation safety at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Ukrainian ZNPP, which was occupied by russia.

They also stressed the need to exclude russia from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), an intergovernmental organisation mandated to promote the sustainable use of renewable energy.
