The Government is pursuing a comprehensive reform of the social sphere and fulfills all social obligations to its citizens. This was emphasized by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during the Second Ministerial Social Policy Summit “Building a Sustainable Society: Innovative Solutions for Demographic Change”, which took place in Lviv on May 22.

The event brought together ministers of the European Union member states, representatives of the European Commission, international organizations, as well as leading experts and politicians.

"Despite the ongoing war, we continue our reforms and align our policies with European standards. For us, European integration is not just a political objective — it means tangible improvements in the daily lives of Ukrainians," the Head of Government emphasized.

The Prime Minister noted that one of the key areas of social change in the country is to support families with children - from family planning to their adulthood. This includes access to quality healthcare, preschool and school education, social services, as well as targeted financial support.

“We are convinced that investing in families is investing in Ukraine’s recovery, its human capital, resilience, and future development,” stressed Denys Shmyhal.

Also, according to the Prime Minister, the Government is working on reforming the pension system, in particular, the introduction of a funded pension system.

Building an inclusive labor market, another area of transformation in the social sphere, involves a barrier-free environment, support for entrepreneurship, flexible employment conditions, and retraining programs.

"We are developing a comprehensive policy on aging based on partnership between the state, business, civil society, and citizens themselves. We want elderly people to take an active part in every area of life," said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Government was actively working to create conditions for the return of Ukrainians from abroad and their adaptation.

“The Government is developing a comprehensive program of incentives and favorable conditions to encourage our citizens to come back home,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

In addition, according to him, russia's full-scale aggression has significantly deepened the demographic crisis in our country.

“We recognize that the demographic challenge is a shared one — and that Europe must respond to it together,” the Head of Government emphasized and thanked the partners for their solidarity with Ukraine, for their willingness to share experiences and jointly find solutions to common challenges.
