A delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine headed by Minister Mykola Solskyi have returned from Africa. Mykola Solskyi told about the first results of the visit during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform on January 16.
He stressed that the visit to Africa was an important step not only in the trade and economic, agricultural aspect, but also in the geopolitical aspect. Indeed, Africa is the third largest market for Ukrainian agricultural exports, and it has prospects for development, given the tendency of population growth, and hence the growing need for food.
According to the Minister, the meetings were held in the Republic of Ghana, the Republic of Senegal and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. These countries are traditional importers of food, especially wheat.
“This is a large and developing market. Our visit is one of the steps to a large systematic work for the development of trade relations between the countries,” said Mykola Solskyi.
During the visit, the delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food held a number of meetings with government and business representatives in Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Ukraine and Senegal in the field of agriculture was signed, and a number of agreements on further cooperation were reached.
The parties also discussed projects on creation of grain hubs for grain storage in African countries. Implementation of joint logistics projects will allow to do business predictably, stabilize prices and have confidence in the quality of grain and the necessary volumes of supplies.
Mykola Solskyi noted that the visited countries are interested in developing cooperation with Ukraine.
“Such trips lead to development of relations and will gradually improve them,” the Minister stressed.
Deputy Minister Markiyan Dmytrasevych continues his visit, holding a number of meetings in Nigeria.
