Ministry of Economy and Environment: Humanitarian demining results for August

In August, under the Humanitarian Demining budget programme:

• mine action operators cleared 3,555 hectares of agricultural land;
• five agricultural land clearance contracts were completed;
• mine action operators received UAH 251.2 million for completed work;
• the average cost of clearing land under the programme was UAH 70,500 per hectare.

Work is currently under way under 42 contracts covering around 8,630 hectares of agricultural land. A further 105 contracts have already been completed, returning 19,966 hectares to productive use. The work cost UAH 1.217 billion.

In August, deminers completed the clearance of the village of Hrakove in Kharkiv region. Funding for the operation was raised through the UNITED24 platform as part of the Step by Step initiative. The head of the Prolisne community, which includes the cleared village, received certificates confirming that the work had met the required quality standards.

The contract for the demining of the village of Hrakove was signed at the end of 2025 by the Centre for Humanitarian Demining and the tender winner, the operator “Humanitarian Security”. The operation took just over six months, during which deminers removed hundreds of mines and other items of explosive ordnance.

The Government has approved the creation of the Donor Platform, an information and communication system for managing the financing of mine action projects. The platform will allow partners to monitor project implementation, view the current needs of state stakeholders and choose which requests they wish to fund. Under the adopted resolution, its development may be financed by international organisations, donor institutions and other partners.

In late August, 25 veterans from Kharkiv region and members of their families completed training and received state-recognised diplomas in Sappery and Humanitarian Demining. The graduates will join the team of a mine action operator working in the region. The initiative is being implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Environment of Ukraine and the Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, with support from the Government of Italy.

The Humanitarian Demining budget programme is financed as part of the Ukraine Plan under the Ukraine Facility, the European Union’s financial support instrument for Ukraine.
