Today, on January 21, in Kyiv, a memorial bas-relief was opened to the Supreme Commander of the army and fleet of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR), the President of the UNR Symon Petliura. The bas-relief is located at the following address: Symon Petliura Str., 2/4 on the corner of Taras Shevchenko Blvd.

As noted at the opening of the bas-relief Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko, the image of Symon Petliura is an example of service to the Ukrainian people and the ideas of the Ukrainian independent state. "That's why this name and surname are so hated in Russia. That is why during the last century this figure was surrounded with a lot of myths, speculation and outright lies", the Vice Prime Minister said.

"I am pleased that today we are making a step towards the commemoration of Symon Petliura, and already next year, I believe (and this should be an ambition of both the central government and the Kyiv city administration), here in Kyiv, a monument to Symon Petliura will be opened. We must repay our obligation and pay due attention to the memory of the Ukrainian heroes - those fighting for the independence of Ukraine", said Vice Prime Minister.
