  • Minister Pavlo Klimkin is on offical visit to Kenya

    On May 21, 2018, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin has begun an official visit to the Republic of Kenya.             

    This is the first-ever visit by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Kenya in the history of bilateral relations.

    The first day of the visit started with talks between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ambassador Monica Juma.

    In order to implement the priorities of the Ukrainian-Kenyan relations, an agreement was reached to establish a mechanism of cross-sectoral cooperation, conclude in the near future agreements on further development of trade and economic cooperation, in particular, to increase the volume of trade turnover, which had increased 2.5 times over the past year.

    Special attention was paid to the development of people-to-people contacts, which will be facilitated by future agreements on direct flights, cooperation in the field of education, etc.

    The sides exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues. The Kenyan Minister was informed about Russia’s aggression in Donbas and occupation of part of the sovereign territory of Ukraine.

    Pavlo Klimkin urged the Kenyan side to continue supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Also, prospects for deepening interaction within the framework of international organizations were discussed.

    The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine invited his Kenyan counterpart to visit Ukraine at a time of her convenience.

    Later on, together with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other public institutions of Kenya, the diplomatic corps, business associations and the Ukrainian community, Pavlo Klimkin took part in the events on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Kenya, and the upcoming celebration of Africa Day.

    In his speech at the event, Pavlo Klimkin expressed confidence that the recent years of political dialogue between Ukraine  and Kenya would help establish genuine partnerships and achieve mutual interests on the issues of international agenda.

    For their part, representatives of the Kenyan side expressed their gratitude to the Government of Ukraine for its contribution into the development of bilateral cooperation, both in the political and economic spheres, in particular trade, agriculture and education.

    Both parties emphasized the importance of developing inter-human relations between the two nations.

    On the occasion of the approaching Africa Day, the Minister greeted those present and wished all African peoples unity and well-being.
