Day 678 of the russian full-scale military aggression against Ukraine continues.
On the night of 2 January 2024, the enemy repeated its massive attack with various types of air strikes, as it had done a few days earlier – on December 29, 2023. The russian federation continues to attack civilian, critical infrastructure and industrial, historical and cultural heritage sites, presenting them as strikes on military targets. The main target has been the capital of Ukraine. Kharkiv was also hit hard.
According to updated information, the enemy launched 135 air strikes during the day: missiles of various types and attack UAVs. The Ukrainian air defense destroyed 107 aerial targets: 35 out of 35 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs, 10 out of 10 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles, 59 out of 70 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles, 3 out of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles.
During the day of January 2, there were 56 combat engagements. Also, the enemy launched a total of 66 air strikes, including strikes with Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs, carried out 2 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have killed civilians, with more than 100 affected and wounded, including children. More than 100 private residential and apartment buildings, other civil and industrial infrastructure in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa oblasts were destroyed or damaged.
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.
Volyn and Polissya axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group. Certain units of the armed forces of belarus continue their missions in the areas bordering Ukraine.
Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. More than 10 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Klyusy (Chernihiv oblast), Kostyantynivka, Volodymyrivka, Kyyanytsya, Stepok, Novodmytrivka (Sumy oblast), Okhrymivka, Bolohivka, and Dvorichanske (Kharkiv oblast).
Kupyansk axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 5 attacks near Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka (Kharkiv oblast). In that area, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove (Kharkiv oblast).
Lyman axis: the occupiers did not conduct any offensive (assault) operations. The adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Bilohorivka and Serebryanske forestry (Luhansk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, including Nevske (Luhansk oblast), Torske, Serebryanka, Spirne, and Rozdolivka (Donetsk oblast).
Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 5 attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiyivka, and Andriyivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy made unsuccessful attempts to improve its tactical position in that area. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Kalynivka, Klishchiyivka, Andriyivka, and Stupochky (Donetsk oblast).
Avdiyivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Avdiyivka, and 14 more attacks in the vicinities of Pervomaiske and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast). With the air support, the occupiers made unsuccessful attempts to improve its tactical position in that area. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Keramik, Stepove, Avdiyivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast).
Maryinka axis: the enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) operations. The invaders launched air strikes in the vicinities of Heorhiyivka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Kurakhove, Pobjeda, Yelyzavetivka, and Katerynivka were under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.
Shakhtarske axis: the adversary did not conduct any offensive (assault) operations. Around 10 settlements, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.
Zaporizhzhia axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 1 enemy attack near Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). The attack was as an unsuccessful attempt to regain the lost ground in that area. Air strikes hit Novodanylivka and Orikhove (Zaporizhzhia oblast). More than 15 settlements, including Zaliznychne, Robotyne, Novoandriyivka, Mali Shcherbaky, and Kamyanske (Zaporizhzhia oblast), suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Odesa operational-strategic group, Kherson axis: the adversary launched 1 air strike in the vicinity of Chervonyi Mayak (Kherson oblast). The adversary fired artillery at Beryslav, Tyahynka, Kherson, and Bilozerka (Kherson oblast).
The enemy does not abandon its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnipro River. For instance, during the day of January 2, the occupants attempted 8 unsuccessful assault operations, but the Ukrainian troops continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the adversary.
During day of January 2, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 12 concentrations of enemy troops.
The Ukrainian missile troops hit 2 anti-aircraft missile systems, 1 artillery system, and 1 fuel and lubricant depot of the russian invaders.
