Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, posted 20 August 2020 17:26

On August 20, 2020, the press center of UNIA "Ukrinform" hosted a briefing of the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Olexandr Tkachenko to discuss the implementation of the Presidential Decree on measures to support the sphere of culture and tourism.

According to the Minister, this document will be a roadmap for the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy for the next four years.

"We estimate that over UAH 55 billion is needed to implement these programs, which include the Presidential Decree," the Minister said.

According to him, there are now about 130,000 immovable cultural heritage sites in the state register, and 80% of them require immediate reconstruction.

Oleksandr Tkachenko stressed that it is not only about restoration and reconstruction, but also about the transformation of old clubs and libraries into modern centers of cultural services.

"Our main idea is not just to preserve objects, but to fill them with new content," the Minister added.

It should be noted that on August 18, the President signed a Decree "On measures to support the sphere of culture, protection of cultural heritage, development of creative industries and tourism."

The document aims to promote the development of Ukraine’s cultural potential, preserve, popularize and effectively use the national cultural heritage, create conditions for the tourist attractiveness of cultural heritage sites, and support the creative economy.
