    On Thursday, August 20, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO).

    The Government and representatives of the Council agreed on joint work with the public on COVID-19.

    Denys Shmyhal noted the importance of cooperation between the Government and the UCCRO in the field of educational work with the population to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

    "At the beginning of the epidemic, we managed to overcome the panic within the society. However, these days people have started to forget about the threat. I believe that our coordinated work will save dozens of thousands of lives and preserve health," said the Prime Minister.

    The Prime Minister added that he considers it crucial to start a large public dialogue to avoid the risk of overloading the health care system with patients. "We must bring people back to understanding that this is a real danger. But life does not stop. Children should study, enterprises should work, people should be able to go to church, while adhering to safety rules," said Denys Shmyhal.

    Representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations supported the importance of joining forces with the Government. They shared their experiences in preventing the spread of coronavirus in communities and provided their own suggestions for outreach with the society. Representatives of the UCCRO also stated that they are ready to cooperate with the Government in educational work on COVID-19.

    Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal thanked the members of the Council for their readiness to cooperate and supported a number of proposals. In particular, the first lesson in educational institutions should be devoted to the topic of protection against coronavirus infection. Denys Shmyhal commissioned acting Minister of Education and Science to work out such an idea.

    The participants of the meeting also discussed holding of mass gatherings. "It's important that people have a conscious approach. We do not want to impose bans or restrictions. That is why it is crucial to ensure that the Government, the church and religious organizations teach people not to risk their lives and health explaining in the right words," said Denys Shmyhal.

    Apart from that, the Prime Minister commissioned the Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Oleh Nemchinov to coordinate the work on the rapid exchange of information with members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
