Compared to March 2023, in March 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia transported a third more cargo – 16 million tonnes – in all modes of traffic. This is also 10% more than the record figures of February 2024, when the volume of traffic reached 14.5 million tonnes. Ukrzaliznytsia has been showing growth in freight traffic for the third month in a row. And the March result is the best since the start of the full-scale invasion. This was announced by Oleksander Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development.
5.3 million tonnes of cargo was transported through the port stations, including 2.7 million tonnes of grain. Western border crossings accounted for 3.4 million tonnes, including 484,000 tonnes of grain.
In March 2024, 8 million tonnes of cargo were transported by rail for export, including 3.2 million tonnes of grain. Overall, 51% of all cargo was exported. The volume of exports increased by more than half compared to March 2023.
Domestic traffic totalled 7 million tonnes, up 11% compared to March 2023. Import traffic increased by 65% compared to March 2023 and totalled 808,300 tonnes.
