The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has approved Ukraine’s accession to the OECD Council’s Recommendation on Health Data Governance.

These recommendations set out international standards for how countries should collect, store, process and use health data. They cover not only the protection of information, but also how such data can be used to benefit patients and improve the healthcare system as a whole.

“Ukraine’s accession to the OECD Recommendation means synchronising national approaches to health data governance with international standards, the dynamic development of digital services and infrastructure, the improvement of processes for generating, collecting and sharing health data, and their effective use for planning and decision-making,” noted Deputy Minister of Health for Digital Development Maria Karchevych.

Over recent years, Ukraine has already taken many steps in this direction. In particular, the country has implemented an electronic healthcare system that now contains more than 5 billion medical records of Ukrainians, developed new digital tools, and introduced electronic services.

Joining the OECD recommendations is a continuation of the digital transformation of healthcare in Ukraine. This decision lays the foundation for more effective use of data, with guaranteed protection and adherence to the principles of openness in line with international standards.
