A regular meeting of the Commission for Coordination of Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine was held on May 17 under the presidency of Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.

The agenda focused on preparations for the NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting at the level of Heads of State and Government on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, on July 11-12.

The Deputy Prime Minister outlined the main expectations of the Ukrainian side from the NATO Summit: “It is important to receive assurances of the readiness of NATO member states to support the Peace Formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. At the global level, we expect it to be documented that Ukraine will become a NATO member and that the Alliance will offer a clear algorithm for moving towards accession. Until then, it is crucial that Ukraine has security guarantees from NATO members, which can in no way be an alternative to membership. In particular, we count on the support of NATO members until Ukraine fully restores its territorial integrity and sovereignty within the internationally recognised borders of 1991.”

According to Olha Stefanishyna, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit, Ukraine expects the approval of an updated Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine to achieve full interoperability with the Alliance and a comprehensive transition to NATO standards. The document should focus on medium- and long-term projects. Ukraine has identified a number of priorities that, in addition to achieving military interoperability, cover areas related to overcoming the consequences of russia’s military aggression. These include humanitarian demining, the development of a system for the medical (psychological) rehabilitation of wounded service members, and a system for transition from military careers to civilian life.

The Commission also discussed current issues of Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO, including the state of implementation of partnership goals within the framework of Ukraine’s participation in the Force Planning and Assessment Process, and the integration of programmes and courses on Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration into the secondary and higher education system.
