First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine/Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with German Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul on the sidelines of the international conference “Energy Security – Lessons from Ukraine,” taking place in Berlin.

They discussed deepening cooperation with German industry in the development of flexible generation, the modernization of power grids, hydrogen technologies, and the localization of energy equipment production.

The parties also coordinated priorities for preparation for the upcoming heating season.

”In particular, an additional EUR 46 million has been allocated in 2026 for electricity transmission efficiency projects that we are implementing jointly with KfW,” told Denys Shmyhal on the outcomes of the meeting.

Moreover, the sides touched upon the joint project with Siemens Energy та Siemens AG on relocating a gas turbine to one of Ukraine’s TPPs. According to Denys Shmyhal, the infrastructure linked to Nord Stream must serve to strengthen the energy security of both Ukraine and Europe.

One more focus of discussion was gas security and the use of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities. Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude for the implementation of the first-ever delivery of regasified LNG from Germany to Ukraine in February this year.

While addressing nuclear safety, the parties agreed that Europe had to accelerate diversification and the transition to alternative suppliers and technologies for nuclear fuel production.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Germany for its leadership in supporting Ukraine. Through the Energy Emergency Assistance Coordination Centre, Ukraine has received more than 3,200 tonnes of humanitarian cargo from 49 German donors.
