Almost 14,000 kilometers of roads have been built and repaired as part of the President's Large Construction program in two years. This was discussed during the All-Ukrainian Forum Large Construction: Roads and Bridges with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The Head of State noted that the authorities had stopped planning within the frames of one budget year, had changed the approach to public investment, procurement and pricing, had united various teams and bodies around long-term goals, had managed to attract state and international funds, to improve quality and even reduce construction costs per one kilometer of roads.
"And the result is almost 14,000 kilometers of roads in two years of the program Large Construction. There have been renovated and built - what we can see today according to statistics - more than 40% of the main road network of Ukraine, which connects large and small cities, all important Ukrainian regions," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Prime Minister noted that in total for 2020-2021 more than 10 billion dollars had been spent on the development of road and bridge infrastructure.
"It's not just numbers. Each hryvnia invested in infrastructure projects gives a multiplier of UAH 2 to UAH 6.5 in revenues in other industries. In 2022, we are not going to slow down. More than UAH 140 billion have already been budgeted for further infrastructure development," said Denys Shmyhal.
The Head of Government stressed that, in addition to state funds, funding from international partners are involved in the development of infrastructure projects, and the next stage is resources of the business based on public-private partnerships and concessions.
"Implementation of the first concession autobahn Krakovets - Brody - Rivne should start next year. This is a significant step for Ukraine, as business funds will give an additional impetus to the development of transit and tourism potential," said the Prime Minister.
As Denys Shmyhal noted, another project of the concession highway will be Stryy - Mukachevo road, for which investors are already competing.
