  • Interagency meeting members talk about ensuring efficient physical and mental rehabilitation of persons released from captivity

    How to ensure high-quality physical and mental recovery of persons released from captivity. This topic was discussed during an interagency meeting. The participants considered the concept of state policy on comprehensive rehabilitation of persons released from enemy captivity.

    The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk, Minister of Health Viktor Liashko and representatives of other agencies.

    The concept aims to provide persons released from captivity with quality medical, rehabilitation and psychological assistance. This should apply to both released civilian hostages and released military personnel.

    The participants agreed that the relevant state policy should be implemented in three areas:

    - medical (including psychological assistance);

    - social protection;

    - reintegration (i.e., recovery and return of former prisoners to full life).

    Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk emphasized that the state must guarantee the protection of the rights and dignity of former prisoners. She also added that the issue of psychological rehabilitation of these individuals required separate regulation.
